Doing Bad Things with the Good Book:

The Weaponization of Scripture in Private and Political Contexts

7pm – August 23, 2025

Trinity Church (PCA)
4555 Shattalon Drive
Winston-Salem, NC 27106

Join us for a public lecture from Dr. Helen Paynter, hosted in partnership with the Centre for the Study of Bible and Violence.

How has the Bible been weaponized to legitimate harmful behaviors and ideologies, from domestic violence to ethnonationalism? And how do we become the kind of individuals and communities capable of recognizing and resisting these abuses of God’s word? Dr. Helen Paynter—Executive Director of the Centre for the Study of Bible and Violence in Bristol, England—will address these questions and more in a public lecture, followed by a time for Q&A. Light refreshments will be provided.
